Fire Hydrants

The Fire District maintains over 440 fire hydrants Island wide. The District is the owner of the hydrants and sustains a very good working relationship with the Island Water Association for installation of new hydrants and repair of older hydrants.

Annually, all fire hydrants must be flushed and serviced by the District personnel and one full time utility worker. The Island Water Association recently purchased hydrant defenders to restrict access to hydrants by unauthorized personnel.

Due to the recent storm events that have effected our Island, many of the fire hydrants have been covered with vegetation debris.  This hinders access to the hydrants when needed in an emergency.
